Our People

Farming winegrapes and making premium wines, even for a small operation like ours, requires a vast amount of specialized knowledge and experience.  Part art and part science. Finese and a bit of brute force.  We are grateful and proud to have some great people on our team.

Marco Cappelli, winemaker

Our consulting winemaker is the extraordinarily talented Marco Cappelli.

After making wine for two decades in the Napa Valley and working in France, Italy, and Australia, Marco moved to the Sierra Foothills in 2004 for a slower, agricultural life tending his own vineyard. But the slow and quiet life has eluded him as his winemaking skills and knowledge have proved to be in high demand.

As a promising winemaker, Marco produced the inaugural vintage for Swanson Vineyards, where he remained for 17 years, until leaving for the Foothills. Marco’s passion for wine was evident from his college years when he was captivated by the process of making wine. After earning a degree in Enology from the University of California, Davis’ famous viticulture and enology school, he headed to Europe to learn more about wine and how naturally-incorporated into life it is there. On return to California, he gained a mentor in Andre Tchelistcheff – The Maestro – who taught many of the giants of Napa Valley winemaking, including Robert Mondavi.

Marco brings that early yet enduring passion to every wine he makes. He has acquired the knowledge and patience to deal with the wide-ranging terroirs and varietals of the Foothills and has raised the bar for the entire region.

... and, what would a winery be without a winery cat?
